Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: We are Eqbal, Ashleigh, baby Nazanin, and cat Koritchi living in the heart of Athens. Eqbal is originally from Afghanistan and we wanted to have small items and art around the home that showcased his culture growing up. Ashleigh loves all things cozy, natural, Scandinavian, and art full of colour.
We bought our home in 2019 and started renovating. Our home is located just twenty minutes by train to the famous Acropolis and we love getting to walk around the neighbourhood visiting coffee shops and local bakeries.
Our home is filled with local art from Greek artists, light, plants, music, and tons of projects as Eqbal is quite the fixer-upper! He did everything in this house and he has a vision for everything.
Ashleigh loves eclectic, colorful, and minimal decor with lots of textures while Eqbal loves the modern and clean lines. If she could Ashleigh would paint every wall a shade of blue. Ashleigh spent years collecting different art around the world and curated many beautiful pieces for their home from outdoor markets and Facebook marketplace.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Cozy, artful, Greek-inspired, bohemian, colorful
What is your favorite room and why? Ashleigh’s favourite room is the bedroom because it’s full of light and whimsy. It’s colorful, full of books, and fun art. It’s gotten even better with Nazanin’s bassinet, toys, and colorful tiny clothes. Eqbal loves the main room, where it’s clean lines and simple. Everything has a place and everything is neat and tidy. Nazanin loves anywhere where her favourite toys are! Koritchi, our cat, loves the balconies as she can lay out all day.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? Most everything lately is for Nazanin. Recently we have wanted to set up her play area and nursery area with fun and colorful toys.
We also really love the natural Greek style as well so we kept some of the natural ways of the home. We have some great rugs from IKEA and Zara.
Any advice for creating a home you love? Make a plan and make mood boards for each room! If possible, make a large plan for every room and stick to it. Since we started building in 2020 it was so difficult as stores were closed and it was hard to get materials we wanted. We’d go into a store with a plan and leave with entirely new purchases, which made everything a bit more complicated.
Stay true to your style and try to maintain the local and natural resources that are around you as well. Our home is filled with love and plants and good energy. We have welcomed many friends to come stay with us and we will forever love this home we get to share with others.
