Of the many, many, MANY materials the Cricut Maker 3 is able to cut, the one I’ve been most excited about is basswood. The potential for creating wooden designs without ever touching a power tool is incredibly exciting. And while the basswood is light and thin (making it possible to cut using the Cricut knife blade) the Maker cuts the pieces so accurately we’re able to layer the pieces and build strength.
But there’s plenty of things we can do with a single sheet of basswood. This wavy shelf is one of them! I’ve only used one layer of wood to create the wave on this shelf. Once I had created the design it was easy to weld and cut in Cricut Design Space to cut the right size piece for my shelf. I build this 60cm long shelf myself using a 60 cm x 20 cm piece of wood and attaching a 60 cm x 3 cm wood strip along the edge with glue, nails and screws (that is definitely not breaking!)
Then all I had left to do was cut the basswood on my Cricut, glue the strips to the remaining three edges using wood glue and paint.
I’ve created a quick video tutorial over on Instagram and TikTok. And you can download the SVG file for the wavy section here:
Let me know if you’d like to see a video on how I edited the file to create the pieces in the sizes I needed for my shelf. Drop a comment on Instagram or TikTok! I’d love to hear what you think!
